CHEMICAL PEEL

WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

A chemical solution is applied to the skin causing minimal trauma to the skin’s layers. This loosens dead skin cells which will eventually peel off promoting new cell growth and revealing a more youthful appearance. We offer a variety of different peels to match your personal skin care needs. A HydroJelly Mask is the perfect way to cool off and relax after a chemical peel. HydroJelly is infused with electrolytes and primarily made from beneficial algae. The mask creates a vacuum like seal to penetrate all the nutrients and ingredients into your skin from the mask that is chosen for your personal skin concerns. The mask cools the face while setting into a rubberized mask. This intensive mask is a potent moisturizer that nourishes the skin while leaving a luxurious texture.

CHEMICAL PEEL BENEFITS

FAQ's

Immediately after the peel, your skin will feel tight and may be red. You will experience peeling for 3-5 days. Any visible peeling will be light and fluffy and easily controlled with moisturizer. Use of gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen is important, as it will enhance the healing process and results. Peeling skin should be allowed to slough off naturally; picking or peeling of flaking skin is prohibited, as it may lead to scarring.

Procedures may vary dependent on the type of chemical peel chosen. Skin is prepped using a medical degreaser to ensure the treated area is free of any oils left on the skin. The chemical agent is then applied and typically remains on the skin for 3 to 5 minutes. Most patients feel a mild stinging which is temporary and usually subsides after a few minutes. Some peels are designed to self neutralize and may remain on your skin for 2-4 hours.

Chemical peels are recommended for men or women who suffer from sun damage, acne, acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation or malasma, blackheads or excessively oily or dry skin types. We cannot perform chemical peels on anyone who is pregnant, is taking Accutane, or is undergoing treatment for a skin disorder.

Peels strengthen collagen bonds and tighten elastic tissues within the skin. This softens or erases fine lines and wrinkles, and gives your skin a firmer, brighter, more youthful look. We offer a variety of safe and effective peels suitable for all skin types, and produce predictable and noticeable results after one peel and significant results after three to six peels.

Normal side effects include redness and swelling on the treated areas. These side effects usually fade within one to three hours after a treatment.

Almost any part of the body can be treated with a chemical peel. Clients often ask for peels on their face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs.

On average you can expect your appointment to be 35-60 minutes depending on the treatment chosen.

PRE-TREATMENT CARE

2 WEEKS PRIOR

Avoid direct sun exposure of any kind as well as tanning beds and self-tanning to the planned treatment areas. It is also recommended to avoid tweezing, waxing, or undergo laser hair removal on the areas you are planning on having the treatment.

1 WEEK PRIOR

Do not use any acidic products or irritants to your skin, such as retinoids or tretinoins, acne medication, BHAs (salicylic), benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C products, lightening agents such as hydroquinone or any exfoliative products including loofahs or coarse sponges to your skin.

DAY OF TREATMENT

Do not apply any creams, lotions, aftershave, cologne, or perfumes and come to your appointment with makeup free, clean skin. It is recommended to bring a hat & sunglasses to avoid sun exposure on your trip home.

POST TREATMENT CARE

DAY OF TO 4 WEEKS AFTER TREATMENT

- The peeling may take anywhere from 7-10 days on average or longer depending on internal and external factors such as skin type, age, weather, lifestyle, and hormones.

- Slight redness and skin sensitivity and flaking can occur as your treatment eliminates dead surface skin cells.

- Your skin may take on a rough, patchy, darkened quality a few days after this treatment.  This is normal and expected and it will resolve on its own.

- The first areas to peel are usually around the nose and mouth, but can begin anywhere.  Most people begin peeling on the 3rd or 4th day after treatment.  It is also possible to not peel at all.  If this occurs, you will still benefit from the treatment because the skin has exfoliated microscopically.

- Make sure to avoid excessive heat on the treated area and direct sun exposure of any kind, as well as tanning beds and self-tanners to the treated areas for 4 weeks after treatment.

- Do NOT engage in strenuous exercise for 2-3 days after treatment because it may exacerbate the inflammatory and can cause your skin to become extremely inflamed. Sweating excessively after treatment can irritate the skin or cause blistering due to the sweat being unable to escape through the top layer of dead skin.  Try to avoid sweating until after you have stopped peeling to avoid lifting the skin prematurely, as this can cause scarring.

- Do NOT use any acidic products such as retinoids or tretinoins, acne medication products, BHAs (salicylic), benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C products, lightening agents any exfoliative products or materials to your skin for 2 weeks after your chemical peel.

- Do NOT tweeze, pick, rub, exfoliate, wax, use a depilatory, undergo electrolysis for 4 weeks after your treatment.

- To reduce the risk of scarring, you do not want to remove the dry, rough, dead skin faster than your body wants to.
