LASER HAIR REMOVAL

WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Laser hair removal targets hair follicles, effectively destroying them and leaving your skin without unwanted hair.

The technology works using highly concentrated light energy that emits light in short pulses. The technology behind laser hair removal works in a similar way to how natural sunlight is attracted to darker clothing. Similarly, the energy from the laser is attracted to the pigment of the hair. Due to this, the ideal candidate is someone with fair skin and dark hair, which creates a contrast, making it easier for the laser to see and destroy the hair follicles. That being said, people without light skin and dark hair are still good candidates for this treatment and can achieve optimal results. At SKINthetics, we use the Cutra Excel HR 755nm Wavelength machine which is the gold standard for laser hair removal. This device also has contact cooling to minimize discomfort.

FAQ's

Yes. First-time laser hair clients require a consultation which is complementary and up to 30 minutes. You can receive treatment on the day of your consultation. You will notice that our first-time appointment slots already have consult time built in to them so you do not have to schedule this separately.

The amount of sessions varies for everyone. On average clients need between 6-8 sessions for full results.

On average, clients experience up to 30% reduction of active hair follicles after each treatment. Hair becomes thinner and less course starting after your first session.

Clients with red, grey, or blonde hair in the area to be treated should consult with a SKINthetic Laser Technician prior to receiving treatments, as the laser is less effective on these hair colors.

Laser can be done on virtually any part of the body. We offer services for Brazilian, Bikini, Armpits, Upper Lip, Chin, Full Face, Legs, Half Legs, Areola, Abdomen, Neck Line, Chest, Back, Forearms and Arms.

Side effects are uncommon but may include; Hyperpigmentation (darkening of skin),
Hypopigmentation (loss of skin pigmentation), mild to moderate burns or blisters, permanent skin discoloration, temporary redness, follicular edema (little pink/red “puffiness, and small bumps like “goosebumps”), swelling and itching in the treated area, hives, rashes, bruising, and lack of desired results.

During your treatment, you can expect slight discomfort, similar to a rubber-band snap on your skin.

Length of your appointment depends on how many areas you are treating. On average you can expect your appointment to be 20-30 minutes.

It is recommended that sessions be 4-6 weeks apart. For best results, allow your technician to customize your treatment schedule based on your needs.

Everyone is different. Many have temporary redness (lasting hours), follicular edema (little pink/red “puffiness”, and small bumps like “goosebumps”), mild swelling or itching in the treated area. However, many people experience minimal/none of the above and forget that they just had a treatment done.

1. Device: Not all laser hair removal devices are equally effective. Some work better for certain skin types or hair types. Some are less powerful. Our device is suitable for all skin types and our device delivers the industry gold standard for hair removal.

2. Technique: Ensuring thorough technique is best at achieving optimal results. This may be the case if your results have been patchy.

Ensuring that clients are in the right growth stage - if you’re attending appointments too close together (less than 8 weeks between sessions), your growth cycle has not reached the active phase. Laser only targets hair in the active phase.

3. Hormones: Individuals with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), taking supplemental hormones, or experiencing hormone fluctuations as a result of underlying medical cause usually need to have long-term maintenance laser.

Those who have achieved hair reduction/removal and later became pregnant or are breastfeeding may experience temporary changes in their hair growth. We always wait until after pregnancy and/or breastfeeding is ceased to determine if any additional treatments are required.

PRE-TREATMENT CARE

4 WEEKS PRIOR

Stop any waxing, plucking, tweezing, threading, chemical epilation, micro-needling, etc. due to the disruption of the hair follicle, which is the target for the laser.

2 WEEKS PRIOR

Avoid sun exposure greater than 30 minutes, even if wearing sunscreen. Stop use of (AHA/BHA) products, hydroquinone, retinols and salicylic acid washes

1 DAY PRIOR

The treatment area must be clean-shaven 12-24 hours prior to treatment. Unshaven clients will be rescheduled. Razors are not provided in the clinics.

DAY OF TREATMENT

Skin must be clean and free of makeup, lotions, oils, deodorant, sunless tanning products, numbing cream, etc.

POST TREATMENT CARE

DAY OF TREATMENT

Mild redness and swelling of the hair follicles may occur. This is normal. Avoid picking or scratching the skin and follicles. Cool cloths can be applied. Sun exposure must be avoided.

1 WEEK AFTER TREATMENT

Exfoliate the treatment areas 2-3 times a week. This minimizes the risk of ingrown hair and encourages the shedding of treated hair. Sun exposure is still recommended to be avoided.

2 WEEKS AFTER TREATMENT

Shedding of treated hair continues. Note that this is not new hair growth. Continue to exfoliate 2-3 times a week. Sun exposure can be resumed with sunscreen.
