WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a cosmetic procedure which involves pricking the skin with tiny sterilized needles. SkinPen creates micro-channels (microscopic holes) at a rate of 1600 per second. The small wounds encourage your body to make more collagen and elastin which heal your skin giving it a more youthful appearance. Best of all, SkinPen doesn’t rely on heat or chemicals, so the results are natural and safe for all skin tones and types. Microneedling may help with issues with acne, hair loss, hyperpigmentation (dark spots or patches of skin), large pores, reduced skin elasticity, scars, stretch marks, sun damage and fine lines and wrinkles.

Micro-Needling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a sterile micropen needle head and handheld micropen skin needling system. The micropen is gently pressed into the skin, and glides across the its’ surface to induce new collagen and elastin.
You only need one microdermabrasion treatment to notice softer, smoother skin. That said, your skin regenerates on a monthly basis. About four weeks after your treatment, you may notice that your skin doesn't look quite as radiant and youthful as it did. Microdermabrasion is gentle enough to have done every two to four weeks. Doing so can prolong the effects of healthy cellular turnover.
Micro-needling is considered a safe treatment for all skin types. The side effects associated with micro-needling are temporary swelling and redness.
While micro-needling can sound rather daunting, the needles that we use during the procedure are microscopic. The treatment can cause discomfort. Areas with deeper imperfections may cause more discomfort than areas with superficial imperfections. We ensure that our patients are comfortable throughout the entire procedure. A topical numbing agent is applied 30 minutes prior to Micro-needling to aid any discomfort during the procedure.
Results are not considered permanent, as natural degradation will occur over time. Improvements from micro-needling can be seen for several years after treatment, and results can be prolonged with the correct at home skincare maintenance.
Generally, patients notice tightening, and a more even tone to their skin, a week or two after their first session. For areas with deeper imperfections, results can be subtler, and additional treatments are usually required. Since Micro-needling stimulates new collagen and elastin production, these results will continue to build for up to 6 months.

PRE-TREATMENT CARE
1-2 WEEKS PRIOR
Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment. Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure. No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.
DAY OF TREATMENT
Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil prior to your microneedling session. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation. Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. Come to your appointment with clean, makeup free skin.
POST TREATMENT CARE
DAY OF TREATMENT
A sunburn-like effect is normal. Your skin may feel tight, dry or sensitive to touch. Treat the skin gently by washing it with a gentle cleanser, cool water, and using only your hands to pat dry no earlier than 4 hours after treatment.
2-5 DAYS AFTER
Peeling may start 3-5 days after the treatment. You’ll notice skin dryness and flaking which is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. DO NOT pick, scratch, or scrub at treated skin! Keep skin moisturized.
5-7 DAYS AFTER
You may start your regular skin care products again, once your skin no longer feels irritated. Most of our patients have noticed continued skin improvement over the months following their last treatment.
